A count, such as kills or coins earned: the table shows how far it rose, summing each rise, so a count that restarts at a new run, or a level such as the wardens down, counts every rise.
Gauge:

A level, such as the wave, the phase or the monsters standing: the table shows its highest, or a word’s last.
